Captcha

Captcha is… I don’t know, I guess it’s taking things a little too literal with those spam-denying popups. Some day when we have actual robots who can browse the internet, we’re going to have to develop new tactics in order to keep them out of certain places or to stop them from spamming the shit out of us.

A CAPTCHA is a type of challenge–response test used in computing to determine whether or not the user is human. The term was coined in 2003 by Luis von Ahn, Manuel Blum, Nicholas J. Hopper, and John Langford. The most common type of CAPTCHA was first invented in 1997 by two groups working in parallel.

It’s not a hard test — in fact, that’s the point. For you, the test should be simple and straightforward. But for a computer, the test should be almost impossible to solve. This sort of test is a CAPTCHA, an acronym that stands for Completely Automated Public Turing Test to Tell Computers and Humans Apart.

Here is our Archive of all published Mousebear Comics. Marvel at how terrible the quality used to be (or still is). These are merely cynical musings of two cautiously handsome Schadenfreudes. That’s right, we are increasingly bitterly or sneeringly distrustful, contemptuous, or pessimistic.

We welcome you to our accumulation of visual historical records organized over the lifetime of Mousebear Comedy. These comics have been selected for permanent or long-term preservation on grounds of their enduring personal value.
